START HERE
A good next step,
wherever you’re starting.
Make a better cup at home, learn the barista’s routine or help a team improve. Choose the path that fits what you want to do.
01 · HOME COFFEE ENTHUSIAST
Start with one cup you enjoy.
You don’t need an espresso machine to begin. Choose a method you have equipment for and use the written quantities as your starting point.
- Choose a recipe. Browse the recipe library for your brewing method and read the equipment list.
- Make and taste it. Note your coffee dose, water and the result. Change one thing on the next attempt.
- Explore. Try a regional preparation when you want a different way to enjoy coffee.
Your book: The Barista’s Handbook, for the explanation behind the recipes.
02 · NEW BARISTA
Build the foundations before the flourishes.
Work with your trainer through the Workbook’s 30-session plan. The modules stay in W01–W28 reference order; the session plan gives you the learning order.
- Begin safely. Learn the station, opening routine, grinding, your first filter cup and tasting.
- Build the drink skills. Progress through espresso, milk and drink families, then latte art.
- Bring it together. Practice troubleshooting and service before independent assessment. Use the progress tracker to see what needs another attempt.
Your books: The Handbook for reading and the Workbook for practice and records. Equipment use needs appropriate supervision and site authorization.
03 · CAFÉ OWNER OR INSTRUCTOR
Turn experience into a lesson someone can follow.
Start with what your student already knows, choose one achievable goal and demonstrate the routine clearly. Give them time to practice before assessing independent work.
- Prepare. Agree the café’s recipe and operating procedures, then use the lesson-plan form.
- Coach. Observe the attempt, give specific feedback and choose one useful next step.
- Assess fairly. Use the published Workbook criteria and keep coached attempts separate from independent evidence.
Book 3 is coming soon. The free printable forms are available now. This is an independent training series, not an accredited instructor qualification.
